This fruit sauce can be sweetened according to your preferences with granulated sugar, or, you can use your own favourite natural sweetener such as stevia powder, pure maple syrup or honey.
You may find that you really do not need any sweetener at all!
A great recipe for those looking for a no-fat apple recipe or a gluten free apple recipe too!
Ingredients
Note - if you wish to make more or less fruit sauce, simply halve, or double the recipe ingredients.
Use any type of apple suitable for cooking, or a combination of a few different types of apples.
3 cups fresh or frozen strawberries (do not thaw)
10 - 12 medium size apples or use frozen apples (do not thaw)
1 cup water, (use less if using frozen fruit) Adjust as necessary.
1/4 cup granulated sugar or natural sweetener, optional
Directions
Wash and hull the strawberries. If the strawberries are large, slice them in half.
Peel, core, quarter and slice in half the apples.
Add the prepared strawberries and apples to a large pan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
When the fruit mixtures has come to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low and allow to simmer (with the pan lid ajar) for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the apples are tender.
Remove from heat, allow to cool in pan for several minutes, and then process in the blender until a smooth consistency is reached.
Immediately stir in the sugar or natural sweetener, optional.
Makes about 6 cups of scrumptious Strawberry Applesauce!
Enjoy warm or cooled, plain, or with a dollop of Greek Yogurt or a sprinkling of cinnamon.
Store the Strawberry Applesauce in the refrigerator for up to a week, or can it or freeze it for up to one year.
