This Easy Recipe for Apple Squares includes common ingredients that you probably already have on hand!
This is a great recipe to make for Thanksgiving / Fall when apples are locally in season.
(Tip - You can also use this simple recipe for making blueberry squares by substituting fresh or frozen berries for the chopped apple.)

Ingredients
FOR THE SQUARES
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 medium egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped apples
FOR THE TOPPING
A mixture of 1 tbsp. sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.
Directions
In a bowl, combine with a fork or a whisk, the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
Melt the butter (or margarine), in a medium size pan over medium-low heat.
Remove butter from heat, and mix in, using a wooden spatula, the brown sugar, the granulated sugar, the egg, and the vanilla, until smooth.
Stir in the flour mixture, the chopped apples and the chopped walnuts, until thoroughly combined.
Spread mixture into a greased 8" baking dish.
Sprinkle the top with the sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Bake at 350° f for about 30 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly pressed.
Cool completely in the pan, then cut into squares.
Makes about 16 squares.
