Nothing says "Fall" like a scrumptious bowl of a warm fruit crisp served with a dollop of whipping cream or ice cream, or served plain.
My husband says this crisp tastes like "MORE!".
You will love this!
Ingredients
FOR THE FRUIT
4 cups peeled, cored and sliced pears
3 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp. lemon juice (bottled)
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (or less)
FOR THE TOPPING
1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (or nutmeg)
1/3 cup butter, softened
Directions
FOR THE FRUIT
Place the prepared apples and pears in a large bowl.
Add the flour, sugar, lemon juice and the cinnamon and toss to coat the apples.
Spread the coated apples into an 8" square glass baking dish.
FOR THE TOPPING
In a small bowl, whisk together the oats, sugar, flour and the cinnamon (or nutmeg).
Add the softened butter, and stir with a fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples in the dish.
Bake at 350° F for about 1 hour or until the crumble topping is golden in colour and crisp.
Serves 9.
Baking Tip
Why not consider making a double batch of the topping. You can keep it in the fridge for a few days, and then make the pear apple crisp again or make a crisp with just pears or just apples.
With the crumble topping all ready to go, you'll have dessert ready in a jiffy!
