Although coring, peeling, and slicing apples to make an apple pie or any other apple recipe, or simply to enjoy as a healthy snack can be done easily with a paring knife, these mechanical peelers are a low-cost kitchen tool that is hard to do without!

These apple gadgets are commonly used by Church and school groups who make apple pies as a fund raiser.

This quick and easy method of peeling and coring apples is also used by many people to prepare apples for a food dehydrator to make dried apples.

These peelers are also great for making a healthy apple snack for kids (or adults) who do not like to eat the apple with the peel intact.

If you are peeling apples for a snack that is going to be eaten at a later time, you may want to take extra precautions to ensure that the apple slices do not turn brown too quickly:

GO to How to Help Prevent Apples from Turning Brown

An automatic apple peeler makes it possible to core, peel and slice apples quickly and very efficiently (with no waste), which also helps to prevent them from turning brown. They are easy to clean and maintain.

There are several brands and options available for purchase.

Generally they all operate in the same manner. The process involves placing an apple on a specific prong, and then turning or twisting the handle which directs the apple to the "peeler" which will peel the apple while it is cored at the same time.

When the apple has been peeled and cored, you simply slice the processed apple into the desired size of apple slices.

This process is repeated until the desired amount of apple slices is reached...and they are ready to be added to the pie, crumble, or other apple recipe.

Some models can also be used for peeling potatoes or peeling pears. It is important that the fruit or the vegetable being peeled is firm and not mushy with soft spots.

Below are various models of Automatic Peelers and Corers for Apples which can be ordered through *Amazon.com, and, in most cases be delivered right to your door!

This handy kitchen gadget is a good idea for a gift too!

Note - the mechanical peelers are available in either a suction-cup base, or a clamp base.

I personally prefer the suction cup model because it allows for more options of where you wish to process the apples.

Also, the edge of some kitchen counters, (or tabletops), may not support the clamp mechanism of those models.

This simple mechanical tool for peeling apples is an inexpensive way to save a lot of time and effort when baking with apples!

Why not treat yourself, or your family baker to one today?
